Paul, Lorraine, Cameron, and Caleb McCaw have enjoyed a blessed summer at the Belfast City Mission Hall on Mayo Street, Belfast
Reflecting on this, the family write:
‘I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.’
(Ephesians 3:16-19)
This verse was given to me (Lorraine) many years ago by a dear friend! I carry it with me every day and recently it has come up in many of my different bible readings etc. It reminds us that it is God who gives us the strength to carry on in the difficult times. He has unlimited resources and love for each of us, we just need to trust Him and lean upon Him always.
As a family we have had lovely holidays in July and August, which were greatly appreciated. Caleb is now back to school and studying for his GCSE’s and Cameron returns to University next week.
Our men’s ‘Faith and Drums’ event went really well. We had only 6 men but good discussions were had and an interest in God’s word was shown. We have another event planned for Monday 23rd October when former Northern Ireland footballer, Stuart Elliott will share his testimony and pizza will be enjoyed! Please pray for this event that more men will come in!
Summer Kids Club was well attended this year with almost 40 kids each evening from 6.30pm–8.00pm. On Monday and Wednesday our friends from Ambassadors Football came to Woodvale Muga pitch. They brought a Dutch team along with them this year and the kids enjoyed lots of football games, a message from God’s word and treats. We even ended up being mentioned on the Dutch National News! On Tuesday and Thursday we gathered in the hall to have fun, learn from God’s word following our theme ‘The Wordless Book’, make craft items, and eat biscuits!!! On the Friday evening we had a Fundraiser for Ambassadors. We invited all the parents to come with the children to get a free hotdog and spend money on the different activities! A BIG thank you goes to all our little team of friends who came along to help us serve at Summer Kids Club and those who helped at the fundraiser. We could not have done it without them!
Before the winter work begins in Mayo Street, almost 1000 flyers and tracts went through the doors of homes in the area of our hall. This shows information about all the activities we have in the hall and to let the people know we are here to help!
Our winter’s work begins this Sunday 10th September. We do on-line registration. So far we have 28 registered for Sunday School, so that will be a good start on Sunday from 3.30pm – 4.15pm. Also on Sunday we are beginning a new venture, ‘Hope Youth’ from 7.15pm – 8.30pm. This is for P7 age children and upwards. This will be like a youth fellowship idea, but geared to the kids we are working with. We had been thinking about this for a long time as we had nothing for secondary school age. We also hadn’t the manpower, but God provides from “His glorious unlimited resources.”
Charlotte Lavery will be leading this for us and we will be her helpers! Tuesday 12th September from 10.30am – 12.00noon Mums And Young Ones will begin and we have 20 registered for it.
Then on Wednesday 13th September from 6.30pm – 8.30pm we have Kids Club starting with 31 registered, but there will be more! This is encouraging and we look forward to a great year ahead.
Sunday Services continue as normal, with our Harvest Service being on Sunday 8th October at 6.00pm. Our guest speaker will be Rev David Leach former minister of Union Road & Lecumpher Presbyterian Church’s in Magherafelt and Victoria Salt will be coming along to bless us in song. If you haven’t made it to Mayo Street yet, why not come along and join us on this occasion. A warm welcome awaits you all at Mayo Street Hall!.
Prayer Meeting continues every Thursday from 7.00pm. This is the back bone of our work!
In finishing, can we please ask for prayer as we begin the winters work, especially for our Sunday Services. We really would love to see families join us on a regular basis, not just when the kids are taking part!
