The Methodist Church in Ballymena has launched an appeal to support the development of the first ‘Living Rooms’ in the town.
Project coordinator, Elaine McDonald explains; “This is an exciting first for Ballymena. Local community groups have told us they are desperate for a welcoming safe space where they can meet and share with people who are socially isolated and vulnerable”.
“Our plan is to match this need with a two-storey building beside the Methodist Church. There will be a comfortable living room, a creative arts therapy room and a large homely kitchen where meals can be shared together on the ground floor. On the first floor, we will have 4 self-contained apartments specifically designed for young people leaving the care system”
The ‘Living Rooms’ project will help to improve the mental health of individuals who may, for whatever reason, feel isolated, vulnerable, hurt, and/or voiceless.
Elaine continued; “This project will be of benefit to many as an individual’s improved mental health is shown to have an immense ripple effect on those around them”.
“It’s going to be a challenge to raise the £10,000 needed in community donations to help turn this project into a reality but we are confident that the local community will support us.”
