After 150 years hidden in the bell tower, a historic bell has been hoisted back into the light of day at the Parish of Christ Church Lisburn!
The bell was decommissioned around 20 years ago in favour of an automated chime. The parish has now embarked on a £1/4m project to replace the sandstone in the bell tower. For health and safety reasons the heavy old bell had to be removed from its home.
You can watch the removal of the bell from the bell tower at Christ Church Lisburn on YouTube here.
Thanks to the work done by the team on the Vestry, along with Beattie Cranes, the bell removal happened efficiently and safely. The parish is now hoping to put the bell on display.
The rector, Archdeacon Paul Dundas, said: “It is part of our history and we want to preserve it for future generations.”
