Everyone is welcome to a Release International evening at First Ahoghill Presbyterian Church. It will take place on Saturday 17th November 2018 at 7.30pm (DV).
Minister at First Ahoghill, Rev. Mark Neilly told The Church Page:
“We will be showing the video of the life of Richard Wurmbrand. He was persecuted for his faith and was the mastermind behind Release International. Everyone is welcome to join us.”
Richard Wurmbrand, (1909-2001) was imprisoned for 14 years in communist Romania from the 1940s until the 1960s. He founded the Voice of Martyrs, which is now Release International over 50 years ago to serve persecuted Christians.
He was quoted as saying; “I hate the communist system, but I love the people. I hate the sin, but I love the sinner. I love the communists with all my heart. Communists can kill Christians, but they cannot kill their love towards even those who killed them.”
“When I look back on my fourteen years in prison, it was occasionally a very happy time. Other prisoners and even the guards often wondered at how happy Christians could be under the most terrible circumstances.”
Richard came to the West informing the world about the torture and persecution of Christians. They would not believe it at first until he showed them his bodily wounds.
Doctors who examined Richard found four broken vertebrae in his back in addition to many other broken bones. He had been carved in a dozen places, been burned and had 18 holes cut in his body. Seeing all of this and the scars on his lungs from tuberculosis, the doctors declared that the fact he was alive was ‘a miracle.’ According to their medical books, he should have died years earlier.
In response to these findings, Richard himself commented: “I know myself that it is a miracle. God is a God of miracles. He is the God of the impossible, with God, all things are possible.”
