Ballymena Foodbank has moved to new premises in the Ballee area of the town. The Foodbank staff and volunteers are delighted as these new premises at Ballee will make it more accessible. This will be especially helpful to those who did not have the means of transport to Galgorm, where the Foodbank was based previously. The Foodbank will also continue to operate from Ballyloughan Church as before.
The Ballymena Foodbank will now be based at the following locations and times.
- Compassion Centre, Ballee Drive, Ballee, Ballymena,
Monday 11.00am – 1.00pm
Wednesday 11.00am – 1.00pm
- Ballyloughan Church, Doury Road, Ballymena
Thursday 10.00am – 12.00noon
Ballymena Foodbank has moved to new premises. It will still be providing emergency food to people in crisis.
Every day people in the Ballymena go hungry for a variety of reasons. This can range from the financial difficulties resulting from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference! Foodbanks can help prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.
Local schools, churches, businesses and individuals often donate non-perishable and in-date food to Ballymena Foodbank. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival celebrations. Food is also collected at local supermarkets, including Tesco. The Foodbank is supported by The Trussell Trust.
Foodbanks partner with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and police. Working together, they can best identify people in crisis and issue them with a Foodbank voucher.
Clients bring their voucher to a Foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for emergency food for three days.
Mandy Frew and her team of hard-working volunteers meet and talk to clients over a warm drink. They are then able to signpost them to agencies who are able to solve the longer-term problem.
