An open invitation has been issued to everyone to the Ballymena Church Members Forum AGM on Monday 5th September 2016 at 7.30pm in the Braid Centre, Bridge Street, Ballymena.
The main speaker will be Rev Dr Ken Newell OBE who will be reading from his new book ‘Captured By A Vision’ and will be encouraging listeners by talking about the work of reconciliation.
A Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Ken’s personal walk with God is as dramatic as it is inspiring.
As an 18-year-old member of the Orange Order, he marched with his lodge and later became a Chaplain within the Order. Just a few years later, Ken and his young family were serving as missionaries in East Timor when he became friends with a priest, Fr. Noel Carroll. As their friendship developed, Ken became convinced that: “the only way to understand another person’s faith is through direct contact with them.”
Ken, along with the late Fr Gerry Reynolds, was hugely influential in the work of peace in Northern Ireland during the darkest day of the Troubles. Notably, Ken also served as a Chaplain to Belfast’s first nationalist Lord Mayor, Alban Maginness from 1997-98.
