Mindful Of The Light – a book release by Dr Stephen Critchlow, is taking place on 25th April 2016.
Many of you will be familiar with the author, Dr Steve Critchlow. He gave a series of talks entitled ‘Mental Health Issues In The Community’ last year. Montgomerys Restaurant hosted these talks in the Ballymena area and Steve also delivered the talks at other venues across Northern Ireland. We wrote about them here.
His new book, Mindful Of The Light is on a similar vein, as the Christian psychiatrist shines a light on mental health issues. Topics include depression, suicide, anxiety, addictions, schizophrenia and dementia. The press release for the book states, “This book provides insightful and practical advice from a Christian perspective for all who are living with mental health issues either as sufferers or carers.” It deals with issues such as –
- How can we recognise the symptoms of mental illness?
- What can we do to help?
- Does having ‘faith’ make any difference?
Mindful Of The Light by Dr Steve Critchlow. A new book dealing with mental health issues from a Christian perspective.
Dr. Stephen Critchlow is a consultant psychiatrist with many years’ experience in the field of mental health. Based on popular talks he has given over the last four years to the general public, Mindful of the Light presents an invaluable resource for all who are living with mental health issues, whether as sufferers or carers.
Drawing on his rich, professional knowledge, he offers clear, accurate information about the causes and symptoms of a wide range of problems. He also gives helpful insights into everyday struggles along with practical steps that can be taken.
He also looks at how the Christian faith relates to mental health and the role it can play for those going through the difficult and stormy times mental health conditions can cause. He writes: ‘These days, Christianity tends to be sidelined in the public arena…However, to find out about the beliefs and spiritual support structures of an individual is an important part of psychiatric assessment and this is often neglected.’
First reviews have been very positive about Steve’s book ‘Mindful Of The Light’:
‘This book is scientifically based and is very clear, accessible and positive in its message.’ – Patricia Casey, author, journalist and Professor of Psychiatry at University College, Dublin.
‘I wish I had read Steve’s book 30 years ago. As a local church pastor, I have had to deal with people who have suffered with everything from anxiety to depression. I confess at times I was at a loss to know what to do. ‘Steve’s book carries with it the weight of a professional psychiatrist and practitioner, but his easy-to-read and understandable style of writing makes it accessible to the public at large.’ – Paul Reid, Pastor Emeritus, Christian Fellowship Church, Strandtown, Belfast.
