The annual Harvest Service at Portglenone Parish Church will take place on Sunday 23rd October 2016 at 5:00pm.
Opened in August 1865, St. Colmanell’s Ahoghill and Portglenone Parish churches are part of the Church of Ireland within the Diocese of Connor. Both churches are welcoming communities, who seek to live out God’s purpose as congregations and individuals.
The Church building at Portglenone has recently undergone some refurbishment work. The Harvest service will be the first one back in the main building.
Everyone is encouraged to come along and give thanks for another blessed year of good crops. Rector of Ahoghill and Portglenone, Rev. Gary Millar, said, “There is great excitement among the members of the church as they return to worshipping God in this beautiful house of prayer and praise. For nearly three centuries the people of God have gathered, not only at harvest, but Sunday by Sunday to give thanks to God for his goodness and love. To hear his word proclaimed and to be filled with the Holy Spirit as they seek to live for God in their daily lives.
Thanks to the generosity of the people of Portglenone, the grant from the listed places of Church Worship and the blessings of God we have been able to complete the much needed work on the church building. We have a God who is able to do far more abundantly that all we ever think or imagine and to him be the glory for the blessings of this life.”
The annual Harvest Service at Portglenone Parish Church will be a thanksgiving service to God for all His material and spiritual blessings.
Rev. Millar added, “Our harvest this year is not only a thanksgiving to God for the material harvest we enjoy every day but for the spiritual harvest that has been reaped over the years. As a church we have been entrusted with a wonderful legacy of faith that has been handed to us by previous generations. We hope and pray that we will be faithful in our generation and continue to pass that legacy on to generations that are to come.
My prayer as we return to Church building is that the Lord will continue to save, heal, restore and transform many lives. That we as a church would be faithful and obedient to the Lord. In the words of Timothy Dudley Smith
Lord for ourselves; in living power remake us-
self on the cross, and Christ upon the throne,
past put behind us, for the future take us:
Lord of our lives, to live for Christ alone.”
Light refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall after the Harvest Service at Portglenone Parish Church.
