Spark, the Christian outreach initiative, made a welcome return to Ballymena last week after a one-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over 60 people of all ages met at High Kirk Presbyterian Church for a time of worship and teaching before heading off to serve God within their allocated areas.
The devotions were led by an exciting and talented worship band before Sparkers heard from Jonny Farrell who works for Stand By Me, an organisation that seeks to rescue children in danger of poverty, hopelessness or exploitation.
Jonny’s messages encouraged everyone to ‘live extraordinary lives not because of who we are but because of who’s story we are in.’
Inspired by Jonny’s words, the teams then left for Dunclug, the Doury Road and Town Centre. Steady rain did not stop Spark’s committed volunteers from prayer walking, litter picking, running Kids Clubs or getting through a few gardening jobs.
Looking back on the outreach, a Spark spokesperson told The Church Page:
“Although we were only able to run for three afternoons this year it was such a blessing to be a presence for God in our town again.
“We saw God at work in the small things as lives were touched through prayer, conversations and practical services. In some ways it is true to say that we were blessed beyond our expectations during this year’s event.”
