Capernwray ‘A Place Where God Changes Lives’
Members of Capernwray Ireland are proud to be part of an organisation ‘where God changes lives’ and is a place where He is present in a real and tangible way.
Some of you will know of Capernwray as a Bible School, housed in a beautiful Castle in Carnforth close to the English Lake District.
In truth however, it is so much more than an educational establishment; described by regular visitors as a ‘little piece of Heaven’, Capernwray is a also a Christian holiday Centre to which hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds come for short-term refreshment and Biblical teaching.
Capernwray is also a place that welcomes people of all nationalities not just as students or holiday visitors, but also as volunteers as part of the hospitality, maintenance, or guest support teams for a few weeks or up to 12 months.
The Capernwray Bible School that many of you will recognise began in earnest when Major Ian Thomas and his Belfast-born wife, Joan began to use the building they had purchased a few years earlier as a place where young people would enjoy a holiday and be reached and discipled for Christ as the sane time.
By the late 1940s, young people from Germany were also being invited to spend time at Capernwray. Since then, the global strand of Capernwray’s mission has continued to grow. At the time of writing, there are no less than 25 centres run by Torchbearers of which Capernwray is part in countries as diverse as Canada, Costa Rica, Germany and Australia to name only a few.
Over the years, many Christians from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have travelled to Capernwray and other Torchbearers centres to holiday, study and to volunteer.
Some have attended the 22-week Winter Bible School where you can gain an accredited qualification called Foundations in Christian Life and Service. The Spring School offers a course in the Principles of Christian Life and Service. ‘Taster Weeks’ are also available for people who are interested in enrolling at Capernwray but what to see what life there is like before they decide about coming on a full-time basis.
Numerous holidays, including ‘Escape To Capernwray’, ‘Impact’ (for young adults aged 18-25), One Parent Family Week and a Men’s Weekend are available throughout July, August and September 2022.
An ‘introducing Israel’ week is also planned from 10th-17th November 2022; perhaps you might enjoy the New Year Starter which will take place from 28th December 2022-2nd January 2022.
Since 2003, Capernwray Ireland has helped local people to access these life-changing holidays and courses.
