The Big Ball #2 for El Shaddai Charitable Trust will take place at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort, Ballymena on Saturday 8th February 2020, starting at 7:30pm.
Barbara McKeown-Howe, owner of Fairytale Events NI, decided to organise the evening after she spent some time volunteering at an orphanage that’s run by the El Shaddai children’s charity in the Goa region of India.
El Shaddai is a Christian organisation which works to provide youngsters with food, clothing and a safe place to live. The charity is also active in slum areas and has changed the lives of countless kids for the better.
Barbara first travelled to the sub-continent with Goanserve which was founded by David Montgomery. It’s aim is to provide opportunities for people who are interested in short-term mission experiences with the opportunity to do so.
Talking about her visit to India, Barbara said: “From the moment I got there, it rained and rained. The first message I sent home to my husband Conor was: ‘Oh my goodness what am I doing? I am nearly 50, used to life’s comforts what am I doing in the middle of this place in India?”
“However, by the second day I had fallen in love with it and could see the beauty in it. Many people pray that God will break their heart for what breaks His but I asked for protection and for the opportunity to do some good while I was out there.”
Continuing to reflect on what she described as ‘a beautiful experience’, Barbara went on to say: “The kids were beautiful; they have nothing but would give you anything. In this country, we seem to have everything, yet we have nothing. My experience was different: I loved it and had wonderful time. I thought that if I don’t come back and do something it would have been little more than a good holiday.”
