It’s exciting times at the moment for the congregation of Moneydig Presbyterian Church. The church, which is located between Kilrea and Coleraine, has just welcomed Canadian Pastor Tim Bruneau for a Ministry exchange. Tim is minister of St Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church in Toronto. He will be with the congregation in Moneydig until the end of August while their own minister, Rev Stuart Morrow, spends time ministering in Canada.
We caught up with Pastor Tim and asked him a couple of questions.
You are from Canada, so why have you been spending time in Northern Ireland?
“Almost a year ago now I began to make plans to do a Ministry exchange with two Presbyterian Ministers from Northern Ireland. I saw this as a great opportunity for our family to experience a different ecclesial, social and cultural setting. I came hoping to learn and grow as a Christian leader, to spend more time together as family and to rest.”
What are your plans for the time you will be at Moneydig Presbyterian?
“I will be leading worship for most of the Sunday’s in Moneydig and 2nd Kilrea congregations. I will be involved with the Children’s summer program and regular pastoral care. I also came with a desire to just spend time with other Christians and to learn from them about how they lead their lives with Christ at the head.”
Tell us a little about church life in your part of Canada.
“We live on the west side of Toronto. The majority of people within our area are indifferent to the Christian Church. They may see themselves as spiritual and may recognize a yearning for ‘something more’ in life, but don’t know to look for Jesus. Unfortunately, most of our churches, including ours, have not done very well at making the ‘good news of Jesus’ accessible. We need to pray for revival in our land, to be eager to join God in the mission God wants us to be involved with, and to not become apathetic in our faith – which is the tendency for many of us. We appreciate your prayers!”
