Tearfund Presents From Belfast To Congo
Come and hear an incredible missionary story as Tearfund presents From Belfast to Congo. The story of the McAllister family who served as missionaries in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These two October concerts are at Shankill Parish Church, Lurgan on Friday 21st October 2016 at 7.30pm. Then the following night at Wellington Presbyterian Church, Ballymena on Saturday 22nd October 2016, again at 7.30pm. Both of these events will feature the New Irish Choir & Orchestra. There will also be testimonies by the McAllister family, who have served as missionaries there for many years.
Last July, the BBC screened ‘A Deadly Mission: From Belfast To Congo’. This was an hour-long documentary following the fascinating life of Bob and Alma McAllister. They left the shores of Belfast Lough to live as missionaries in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The story gripped the nation as it told of God’s faithfulness in the midst of terror, uncertainty and struggle.
‘I turned to the rebels and said, “You’ve shot one of my best friends”. Then they turned their guns at me. The bullets went everywhere.’
Bob McAllister
Bob was shot alongside Hector McMillan in 1964. But even this near-death experience was not enough to deter the McAllister family from following their call to bring good news to the Congo.
Now, accompanied by his two sons who are both active players in this ongoing work, Bob is preparing to share this tremendous story at the concerts in October. Come and hear how the McAllister family turned tragedy into hope. Through film, interviews and music from the New Irish Choir and Orchestra, you’ll be inspired by this amazing story and its legacy today.
